This week was a HUGE week for The Green Fund. If you have been checking the site regularly, some of this may be review, but since it all sounds so good, I’m going to say it all again.
First on the exciting list is that SGA approved The Green Fund’s referendum! To quickly explain this to you, a referendum basically poses a question on an issue to the whole student body. For us, the question will be simple–we want to know whether or not you guys support The Green Fund. Depending on what you guys vote, we will be able to take the results to the administration and Harrisburg so that we can officially show student support. The voting date is TBA, so look out for updates on that.
Immediately following the SGA meeting, Dan and I talked with Amber on WSRU. Anyone who listened to the radio show got to hear everything there is to know about The Green Fund. We were asked such good questions, listened to some sweet music, and just had a lot of fun.
The excitement did not stop on Thursday, however. Friday, Dan, Dr. Jerry Chmielewski and I met with Dr. Bucha again, and have officially set up the Green Fund Foundation! Dr. Bucha has been so much help showing us the ropes and offering suggestions, so we really appreciate that. The foundation account is now open for donations, so if anyone is interested, just let any of us know.
We also have a big week ahead of us. This Friday, we will be meeting with President Smith so that we can involve the administration. This will be a very big meeting for The Green Fund, and we will keep you posted on the outcomes.
In other, but related, news, something really awesome is coming right to Slippery Rock. The PA Film Institute will be presenting the “Largest Environmental Film Festival in PA” called the Global Wealth Environmental Film Festival. It is running from March 31 thru April 4, and April 7-April 10. There will be some sweet documentaries, speakers, and music. for more information, visit http://www.pafilminstitute.com .
So that’s all the news I have for you today. As always, Dan and I are open to answering ANY questions and concerns you guys have. Just ask.
Peace and EXCITEMENT!
Rachel
The Green Fund Foundation was officially set up this morning!! Tell all of your friends and family, and if anyone is interested in making a (tax deductable) donation, just let us know!! The establishment of this account means that our short term goal has been accomplished, and now we can focus our energy on thinking long term!
Below Rachel has told you guys all the good news. We got the referendum for the Green Fund! I am really pumped up about the referendum passing!!!! This is a big step but there are many more to come. This is in fact a long term goal. Today’s success only marks the beginning of a long journey. I am so proud of everyone though, thanks for all the support and help that has gotten us this far.
I just wanted to keep everyone up to date on our short term goal, which is just as important as our long term goal. Rachel and I are pumped to start putting together the Green Fund Advisory Board or GFAB as we like to call it. Tomorrow we meet with Ed Bucha and Dr. Jerry Chmielewski to set up the Foundation account which will draw in donations from SRU staff, faculty, alumni and Slippery Rock community members. This will be a big step in our short term goal, the sooner we set up the foundation the sooner we can start accepting donations. And the sooner we get donations the sooner GFAB can start making a difference by approving projects.
Hang loose and happy trails,
Dan Cannon
You guys, we are so excited right now! Dan, Doug, Allie and I attended the SGA meeting this afternoon, and we have succeeded in getting a referendum for everyone to vote on in the spring! We would like to truly thank SGA for allowing us to do this.
We were able to share the news first with Amber on WSRU 88.1, who is really awesome and shared our enthusiasm for the project. We had a ton of fun. So we will be meeting with President Smith next Friday to get the support of the administration, and we will be taking it one day at a time until YOU GUYS get to VOTE!
Hey everyone, I thought I should probably start contributing to the website. So here I am.
First I would like to say Rachel has been doing a great job keeping everybody posted with her Saturday blogs. Thanks Rachel!
I just wanted to talk about some things that are going on right know. Rachel, Doug and I have been putting some time into writing the Green Funds constitution and by-laws. I want to first thank UC Berkley there TGIF project has helped us tremendously. Thanks to them we have written some pretty sweet by-laws. Rachel and I have also created the proposal forms for the research grant and scholarship part of the Green Fund.
We apologize that the video is down right now, currently the video is being updated by Matt. We can’t wait to see the finishing touches! It should be back up and running soon.
Tomorrow is our last push for signatures; we want to get as many as we can for this Thursday’s SGA meeting. SGA is going to have a vote to implement the voting referendum we have been pushing for. Passing this is a huge step! If it passes through SGA, the SRU student body will have the opportunity to voice there opinion on the approval of the Green Fund. Rachel or I will post about the outcome this Thursday, hopefully it will be good news and we can start focusing on what else needs to be done.
Wish us luck.
Dan
Well, it has been three very successful weeks here with the Green Fund. I just want to take a second to say how seriously impressed I am with everybody who has been helping. Leave It Green definitely has the best group of activists around, and without you, this would be a huge struggle. So thank you.
The big event of the week was our hot chocolate drive. We had a ton of fun, collected a lot of signatures, but most importantly, the hot chocolate drive gave us the opportunity to answer student’s questions as well as address their concerns. A special thank you goes to the Park Ranger’s Society who put together this awesome event.
Other than the hot chocolate drive, this week was full of logistical meetings where we got a lot of advice that will help us out as we set up our foundation account, and start to campaign for Harrisburg.
T-Shirts were also ordered, and should arrive a week from Monday. We will call you guys to let you know when you can get your shirt. They are $10, and we do have a few extras that will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. I hope you guys all have a great week!
Peace and Activism!
Rachel
Okay, I know it’s cheesy, but it’s Valentine’s Day, and the Green Fund is giving away hot chocolate in the quad! Come drink some coco, sign a petition and ask us any questions you may have. A huge thank you goes out to Kate Bobal and Dan Baker of the Park Rangers Society, who are hosting this exciting event. Stop by and see us!
Matt Bucceri and Doug Goetz compiled this awesome video for the Green Fund, titled Green Show.
We will be placing the order for t-shirts this week. If you haven’t had the chance to order one yet and would still like to, send your name, phone number and shirt size to rachel {at} leaveitgreen(.)org . Shirts will cost $10 and you can see what they look below.
